2 Methods to Automate Your Folders

1. The Quick Way: Windows Native Bulk Rename

Best if you just want to group a bunch of files together with the exact same name plus a numbered sequence (like Invoices (1), Invoices (2)).

Step 1: Select All
Open your folder. Press Ctrl + A to select all files, or hold Ctrl and click only the specific files you want to rename.
Step 2: Rename the First File
Right-click the very first file and select Rename (or simply press F2 on your keyboard).
Step 3: Type & Enter
Type your base name, like "Client_March_Invoice", and hit Enter. Windows will instantly rename all selected files and add (1), (2), (3) to the end!

2. The Pro Way: Microsoft PowerRename

Best if you need to "Find and Replace" text in file names (e.g., change "2025" to "2026" in 100 files) or change extensions.

Step 1: Install PowerToys
Download Microsoft PowerToys from the Microsoft Store (it's completely free). It adds professional utility tools directly to Windows.
Step 2: Right-Click Menu
Highlight all the files you want to change, right-click, and select "PowerRename" from the menu.
Step 3: Find & Replace
A window opens. Type the word you want to remove in "Search for" and the new word in "Replace with". It shows a live preview. Click Apply!

💡 Pro File Organization Tips

Sort Before Renaming 🔢
Windows numbers bulk files based on how they are currently sorted. If you want them numbered by date, sort the folder by "Date Modified" before you press F2!
The "Tab" Key Trick ⏭️
If you are manually renaming files because each needs a different name, press F2 to rename the first one, then press the TAB key to instantly jump to renaming the next file without using your mouse.
The Panic Button ⏪
Did you accidentally bulk rename the wrong files? Don't panic! Immediately press Ctrl + Z (Undo) and Windows will instantly revert all the files back to their original names.
