Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is an IFSC Code?
IFSC stands for Indian Financial System Code. It is an 11-digit alphanumeric code provided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that uniquely identifies every bank branch participating in the online funds transfer systems (NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS) in India.
How to find my Bank's IFSC Code?
You can find your bank's IFSC code printed on your cheque book, the first page of your bank passbook, or inside your mobile banking application. Alternatively, you can use our Bank IFSC Finder tool above by entering the code to verify the branch.
What is the difference between IFSC and MICR?
IFSC (11 digits) is used for online electronic fund transfers (like NEFT, RTGS, IMPS), whereas MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition - 9 digits) is used primarily for the processing and clearance of physical cheques in clearing houses.
Are IFSC codes same for all branches of a bank?
No. The first 4 characters represent the bank's name (e.g., SBIN for State Bank of India), the 5th character is always zero (0), and the last 6 characters uniquely identify the specific branch. Every branch has a unique IFSC.
